A couple of months ago me and eight other students, part of the Rep London programme were lucky enough to be invited to the London Ambassadors recruitment event. Ours took place at Waltham Forest College. We were all very nervous not to mention it was also our mock exam time. Thankfully, we calmed down a bit once we were registered and we did a quick starter activity which was to write what we loved most about London. We then split up into groups of four and we were introduced to our volunteers and observers. They made us feel really calm and were really friendly and helpful. We first had a timed activity in which we had to place famous London landmarks on a huge map. We didn't do too badly, except none of us knew what the last arch symbol was, it was in fact Marble Arch! After that we had to talk about a topic which we would pick at random, for one whole minute. It's harder than it sounds! We finished up with a quick role play activity where we had to pretend to be either a visitor, with certain characteristics, and our partner had to assist them as if they were a London Ambassador. We switched over and it was surprisingly enjoyable. We ended with a one-to-one interview with one of the London Ambassador volunteers who asked us why we wanted to be volunteers and why we should be picked. We left the recruitment event with lots of new and helpful experience and we then waited in anticipation for those e-mails.....
……A few weeks later and thankfully we were all successful at the recruitment event and me and my friends who went to the recruitment event, all got offered roles as London Ambassadors. We are all very excited. My dates are during the Paralympics at the end of August and I was very happy and excited. We've also just received our first training module dates for the London Ambassador program and are very much looking forward to it. We just can't wait to be part of the Olympics during the summer!
