Throughout history, the City of London Police has played a role in key events from the hunt for Jack the Ripper in 1888 to being the first force in Europe to have automatic traffic lights on its patch in the early 1930s. The force is also a reigning Olympic champion. Today, unrivalled expertise in fraud investigation has placed City of London Police as the Lead Force in the country for fraud. Iconic buildings which can be seen by officers on patrol include St Paul's Cathedral, the Bank of England, the Gherkin, the Stock Exchange, the Monument to the Great Fire of London and the Central Criminal Court (the Old Bailey).
