
Five miles east of the City of London, Newham is bounded by the River Thames in the south, by the River Lea in the West, the River Roding in the east and Wanstead Flats in the north. Newham has the highest young population and is one of the most ethnically diverse borough in England and Wales.
Newham is home to West Ham Utd and notable residents include actor Danny Dyer, Olympian Christine Ohuruogo, footballers Jermaine Defoe and Sol Campbell and rappers Kano and Tinchy Stryder.
The 500-acre Olympic Park will be home to the major sports facilities for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and will be located largely in Newham. Residents in Newham and East London will be able to enjoy the benefits of the London Games long after 2012. Community venues, upgraded transport, sports facilities, green spaces and much more will all remain after the 2012 Games.
