On Saturday, 25 June, Rep London volunteers participated in the first One Movement festival at Mile End Stadium in Tower Hamlets. One Movement is a series of exciting sports festivals funded by the Olympic Lottery Distributor and managed by ELBA. The events aim to inspire young people to get active and take up new sports by showcasing the work of local sports clubs.
Students from St Paul’s Way Trust School and Central Foundation Girls’ School volunteered at the festival, securing VIP access to all areas and gaining invaluable voluntary experience. Working alongside the Young Planners – young local ambassadors who have been fundamental to ensuring the event’s success – the volunteers took on an ‘activator’ role, encouraging other young people to try a new sport. As well as having the chance to play football and basketball, the young people also sampled golf, rock-climbing and archery.
The festival created a vibrant buzz in the local community, with over 890 attendees. Five lucky winners also walked away with pairs of Tinie Tempah tickets that were randomly given away every hour on the hour.
The next festival takes place on Saturday, 30 July in Clissold Park, Hackney. Entrance is free and there are many more prizes to be won including more pairs of Tinie Tempah tickets. Entertainment will be provided by Mz Bratt, Griminal and more up-and-coming artists.
