London Ambassadors: Success for Rep London Students

Following a successful week of selection events at schools and colleges across five of the Host Boroughs, 200 capable young people from the Rep London programme are in the process of accepting positions to become the face of the capital as London Ambassadors in 2012.

The Mayor of London's scheme, London Ambassadors offers these students from East London a once in a lifetime volunteering opportunity: to represent London on the only information 'pod' predominantly manned by young people. Based in the heart of Spitalfields, the youngsters will volunteer for six consecutive days over the period of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Shortlisted applicants attended an event in their borough and demonstrated their confidence, passion and commitment in a series of activities giving a taste of what being an Ambassador will involve.

Supported by dedicated volunteers from Accenture, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, Royal London Asset Management, UBS and the local community, the students demonstrated their communication skills by taking part in a role play, a one minute impromptu presentation and a short interview. In addition, the young people were able to show off their knowledge of London in a place matching activity. The sessions were fun and interactive and meant that the observers were able to gauge how the young people would support visitors to London at Games time.

Each of the five days was a fantastic success, and this would not have been possible without the support of our wonderful business volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the students had a positive experience. The Rep London team are also grateful to the schools and colleges which hosted the selection events back in November: Bridge Academy, Central Foundation Girls School, Sarah Bonnell School, The John Roan School and Waltham Forest College.

Of the 200 selected as London Ambassadors, eight students have been offered reserve roles, and an additional 28 will be invited to attend training. As a result, a total of 228 Rep Londoners will be offered opportunities as part of the programme and are one step closer to representing London in 2012.
